'CLOUDSTORY From cloud and back. A galaxy of placéoutfits takes to space and invades the sky with an ethereal mood that makes the Byblos Milano 2017 spring/summer collection an authentic flight of style. An icy aesthetic blends with the apparent plasticity of details borrowed from the work of Dutch artist Peter Gentenaar, whose paper sculptures assume elegant, unusual shapes like dried leaves: they are clouds and flowers, organic yet also asymmetric, becoming details with character. Decorations that reveal the essence of the collection’s inspirational source: air. The clouds, which look like creatures, are thus brought into an earthly dimension by means of threads, slings and coloured cords to start a new life. A classy parachute for the woman who falls to earth: laces envelop her like braces for a light landing, enfolding her in an embrace and leaving 3D trails behind them. Colourful trimmings, pretty threads and cords create drawstrings, engender embroidery, explode in a shower of cloud-shaped decorations and unravel in a thousand threads. Even more laces fasten blouses, outline the silhouette or become pert fringes with a kind of see-through effect that creates movement. Dresses, like clouds, hide behind sheerness and have the very essence of clouds: embroidery and prints are as enveloping as the air, as multicolour as a summer sky. Ribbon dresses whose elegance is sealed with ribbons, like a seasonal première étoile playing with tulle down to the hem. Laces as braces: fashion becomes a matter of hybridisation. The genuine X-Factor of sweaters and superlight dresses – both long and short – is evocative of parachutes. Voyeurism runs on an embroidery thread which becomes super-chic thanks to the colours that shine from voile tops and see-through skirts. Rich silks abound in harnesses that fly free like floating threads in the same shades – especially yellow and white – as the textures, lending a extra-soft effect. Passionate interweaves of tulle and viscose threads create a bas-relief-like effect. Laser-cut bands applied to jersey warm the heart of the clothes and give a dynamic feel. Big is better: outerwear and many dresses are oversize, like parachutes on the runway. Hem lengths, çava sans dire, are mini or maxi. Byblos.it'
